2020 - 2021
OLPH Confirmation Preparation
Program Summary
Overview
BECAUSE OF OUR UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS, PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS PROGRAM SUMMARY BEFORE REGISTERING YOUR TEEN.
Unique Weekly Program
Each week, the candidates will focus on one of 4 areas of their faith journey and sacramental preparation. While only one of the weeks each month will require participation at their set class time, all other weekly focuses will be due by the start of what would be their class time.
Below is a list of the focuses that will rotate each week (not necessarily in the same order each month). We will have weekly communication with the candidate to make sure they know what is due. Details will be discussed with the candidates during their first gathered sessions.
Parents will also have a schedule of assignments for the year.
GATHERED LESSONS
A TIME TO LEARN, QUESTION, DIVE INTO & DISCUSS OUR CATHOLIC FAITH & THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS AMAZING SACRAMENT
MASS PARTICIPATION
THE EUCHARIST IS THE HEART OF WHO WE ARE AS CATHOLICS. A MASS REFLECTION FORM WILL BE GIVEN TO HELP THE TEENS PARTICIPATE WITH THE MASS & NOT JUST SPECTATE.
FAMILY PRAYER
HAVING SUPPORT IN YOUR FAITH JOURNEY IS SO IMPORTANT. PRAYING AS A FAMILY & HOME CAN PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN THE LIFE OF THE CANDIDATE. A REFLECTION FORM WILL BE PROVIDED.
SOLO PRAYER
PRAYER IS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. THE CANDIDATES WILL EXPLORE METHODS, STRUGGLES, TIPS & RESOURCES FOR THEIR INDIVIDUAL PRAYER LIVES. ASSIGNMENT/REFLECTION QUESTIONS WILL BE SENT & SUBMITTED VIA TEXT.
IMPORTANT NOTES
1 - An IN-PERSON Pre-Program Interview is required to register.
Since we have such limited time with the candidates in person, this is a VITAL part of our program. It is about 15-20min with the teen, MASKS ARE REQUIRED, social distance will be practiced.
2 - Gathered Lesson will occur via Zoom for the fall.
We hope to transition to in-person in the spring, but that will be decided before the new year based on the status of parish social distancing requirements.
3 - Only ONE absence is permitted.
SINCE THERE ARE ONLY 8 TIMES WE WILL HAVE A GATHERED SESSION IN THIS PREPARATION PROGRAM,
ONLY ONE ABSENCE IS PERMITTED. Please pay attention to the dates of the session options. Candidates cannot make up absences in other sessions. Any assignments not submitted on time will be considered tardy. 3 tardies will be equivalent to one absence.
4 - For the fall, OLPH Mass participation can occur in person or online.
We hope to transition to in-person in the spring, but that will be decided before the new year based on the status of parish social distancing requirements. The Mass reflection form will be through a digital link sent to the candidate at the start of the weekend. It must be an OLPH Mass.
5 - Family Prayers can be done w/any member of the family, but a different prayer must be chosen each time.
The Family Prayer page can be found on the OLPHYOUTH.org website. There is a list of prayers to choose from with a corresponding form to submit once completed. The form must be completed by the candidate, not the parent.
6 - Flocknote will be the communication platform used weekly.
Technology can be a useful tool as well as a source of distraction and temptation. Either way, it is integrated into our daily functioning as a society, and learning to use this resource for faith development will be a great resource beyond their year of preparation. Texts will be the primary way we stay connected to your teen, and through the Flocknote platform, they are able to stay connected to their Confirmation class on the weeks we do not meet at a scheduled time.
This allows for effective communication that protects their private contact information and stays within the Safe Environment guidelines of the archdiocese. This will be done through their cell phone numbers (Youth Staff are the only people with access to this information), so special arrangements will be made for any teens who do not have a cell phone.
Since the links sent to the teens will give them communication access to the other teens in their classes, parent cell numbers or emails CANNOT be used in place of the teen's.
COVID-19 Stay Safe Adjustments
Fall weekly sessions/assignments will be completely online. We hope to transition into in-person sessions in the spring but that will be decided before the New Year. The health and safety of the candidates and families are a top priority. If the parish is not opened back to regular functioning at that time, we are prepared for the entire year of preparation to be digital.
Acts of Service, Spiritual Retreat & Parish Involvement have been SIGNIFICANT components of our program. Due to the uncertainty of this year, we will not be requiring information on involvement in these areas. However, we will keep you informed of the opportunities for participation in each of these areas, and STRONGLY ENCOURAGE the candidates to incorporate them into their year of preparation and beyond.
